Get your craft on! Teens will make new and exciting creations each month and meet new friends in the process. This month we'll learn Papel Picado with papercutting artist, Beatriz Vasquez!
Beatriz Vasquez (they/them) is a visual ARTIVIST, whose work experiments with the conceptual use of Papel Picado, a Mexican Folk Art. With the manipulation of paper, they transform layers of intricate cut paper into murals, create wearable sculptures, and exhibit large scale installations. Their work focuses on their Mexican-American ancestry, cultural memory, border culture, and current social issues on immigration, human rights, and climate change advocacy. In 2006, Vasquez received a BFA from Indiana University's Herron School of Art and Design.
Beatriz Vásquez es una artista visual, su trabajo experimenta con el uso conceptual del Papel Picado, un Arte Folclórico Mexicano. Con la manipulación del papel, transforma capas de papel cortado intrincado en murales, crea esculturas portables y exhibe instalaciones a gran escala. Su trabajo se enfoca en su ascendencia mexicoamericana, memoria cultural, cultura fronteriza y temas sociales actuales sobre inmigración, derechos humanos y defensa del cambio climático. Vásquez recibió su BFA en 2006 de la Escuela de Arte y Diseño Herron de la Universidad de Indiana.
