ABOUT USING THE LIBRARY GET INVOLVED
Watch the documentary Waste Land featuring giant portraits created out of mixed materials from the trash. Filmed over nearly three years, Waste Land follows renowned artist Vik Muniz as he journeys from his home base in Brooklyn to his native Brazil and the world's largest garbage dump located on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. There he photographs an eclectic band of catadores — or garbage pickers. He sets out to "paint" portraits of the catadores with the garbage they spend their days sorting, but ends up collaborating with them instead. Registration begins two weeks prior. This documentary is not rated but is recommended for ages 13+.
