Meeting Rooms- East/Center, Meeting Room- Stage2025 marks Jane Austen's 250th birthday! Celebrate with us by exploring the history of Austen's books in print from first editions to the first paperbacks through the early 1900s with Dr. Brad Legge.
Dr. Legge, a local collector of rare Jane Austen books, will lead us on a publication journey of Austen's books. You'll have a chance to view a selection of Austen's works (some of which are first editions!) from his personal collection which ranges from 1814-1920.
Refreshments for the program will be provided by the Jane Austen Society of North America - Indiana Region. Find out more about JASNA-IR here: https://www.jasnaindiana.org/.
Dr. Legge grew up in the United Kingdom (in South Wales) and moved to America in 1997. He has been a practicing physician in the Indianapolis area for last 17 years. He and his wife Sarah have three adult daughters and have lived in Fishers since 2008. Dr. Legge has been collecting Jane Austen rare books for almost 30 years. His collection includes English, French and American first editions. For the last 10 years, he has specialized in pictorial Victorian editions (many of which are harder to find than first editions) and has many beautiful examples. Two years ago, he was able to personally donate a very rare first French edition (in original paper wrappers) of Austen’s Persuasion to the Jane Austen House Museum in Chawton, England. You can view the book on their website here: https://janeaustens.house/object/la-famille-elliot-ou-lancienne-inclination/.
